Swim Wales North Region Championships Week 2 |
Medal TallyGOLD - 19 |
| Abergele swimmers consolodated their opening weekend's performances by upping the anti yet again with Cameron Bell producing an exceptional result in the 11-13 200m freestyle to take silver; at the half way stage, he had split a 2 sec PB on his best ever 100m freestyle so looking good for next time over his favoured distance. Distance man James Owen broke 18 minutes (17.49) for his 1500m winning the event outright. Last time out over the distance, he went 18.01 so a huge effort swim from James in his favourite event. Brad Carnell after a shakey first turn in the 11 - 13 years 200m breast brought home a very well earned silver and dropped his time yet again. Alex Huffen and Charlotte Bryan proved their worth yet again by finishing up there with the best over several events. Charlotte Riley just recovering from a very heavy bout of flu proved her ability by producing fine reulsts in 100m breast as did Hannah Lancaster & Nathan Hughes. All in all in typical style the crew came home with a further 10 x Gold 2 x Silver 3 x Bronze setting 9 x new championship records |

Welsh Regional Nationals 2006 |

Three of Abergele’s top swimmers recently travelled to Wales National Pool, Swansea for the Welsh Regional Nationals, Leah Cooper, Nathan Edwards- Hughes and Hannah Lancaster. Under extremely warm conditions, they had a very rewarding three days. From 25 starts they produced 17 personal best times, six finals, one silver medal and two Bronze Medals. Day Three saw even more Personal Best times being produced. Nathan once again being just piped into fourth place in the 100m breast stroke final but still seeing him knock 2 ½ seconds off his PB. Going into the 200m IM final he had all to swim for. He turned in 5th place at the end of the fly, and held his own on the backstroke to turn in fourth. He really came into his own on the breast stroke leg and turned into the final 50m freestyle just in the lead. He kicked for home in a nail biting last leg but was just piped into 2nd place and a Silver medal by 200ths of a second. |
Cheestrings ASA National Age Group Championships |
|

Abergele's own Rob Parry showed he was more than a match for anything British Swimming's finest could throw at him at the ASA National Age Group Championships Ponds Forge Sheffield. Taking on the best in Britain is no mean task, and the Abergele power house rose to the occasion in true grit style. Day 1 & entering the Meet in the best condition of his life, he powered through to finals in the 100m freestyle and 200m IM. Taking GOLD in the 200m IM slashing almost 3 seconds off his previous best time, and taking BRONZE in the 100m freestyle. Day 2 saw him through to finals of the 100m Butterfly. Going in third fastest & lining up against Oli Schmit (British No.1) Rob looked remarkably relaxed in the warm up. He knew he was in for a drum tight finish as 3 swimmers had gone a minute point in the heats. After a very solid start he swam a very relaxed first 50m hitting the turn 2nd behind Schmit. Fast off the turn he pushed Oli hard overtaking in the last 25m to touch him out in 59.99 to take another GOLD & slashing 1.64 secs. off his previous best. Day 4 saw the final day of competition. Tired but relaxed from a very hard fought competition Rob pushed into the finals of 100m backstroke and 200m freestyle. The100m backstroke event was always going to be an extremely exciting one with nothing much at all between Rob and nearest rival Adam John Plymouth Leander. With nothing in it at the turn the two swimmers were matched stroke for stroke on the back 50m with John just pipping the touch at the finish. With a very hard fought SILVER under his belt Rob was back in the water for the 200m freestyle finishing a very creditable 7th. All 4 days were extremely tough but our Abergele boy did us proud with by far his most outstanding performance at this Championships ever & its GAME ON for the next series of competitions. |

Welsh Age Groups |
|
It was no surprise to the Coach that this years National Qualifiers would make an impression at the National Championships Swansea and, as expected, the Easter weekend got off to a glorious start with the first day of competition producing 18 outstanding personal best times from 22 starts This success very much set the tone for the entire weekend and time and time again Abergele was represented all in all in 20 finals from 50 starts > a staggering 40% of potential finals. In all 6 x Gold and 4 x silver medals were taken from 20 finals and from 50 starts 35 personal best times were produced throughout the weekend resulting in a 70% improvement overall. Well done to everyone we could not have asked for more |

Two club swimmers have started the Season in the form of their lives. Having just come back from their New Year Dragon Meet outing at Swansea we saw Chris Owen make the qualfying time for the ASA Youth Nationals (Shefflield) in the 50m freestyle, where he will go head to head with the countries fastest Youth Sprinters. Owens' Dragon Meet peformance, underpinned his success at the Commonwealth Games Stage 3 meet at Swansea in December when he made All Welsh 200m Freestyle Finals. In recognition of his talent, Owen has also received his first call up to represent Wales at the WISE International Glenrothes Scotland on 18.3.06 Club Captain Rob Parry also stole the charge on the Country's finest Age Group performers at the Same Meet. Moving into competing against the senior ranks Parry broke the British Age Group record in the 50m Backstroke & his performances in the 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle also puts very well placed in the British Age Group rankings. His perfomances qualify him to enter the European Long Course Trials and British Championships at Sheffield in April, where he will be rellishing going head to head against the countrys finest athletes. Parry too has received his 2nd call up to represent Wales at Glenrothes. |
