Swim Wales North Region Championships Week 2

Medal Tally

GOLD - 19
SILVER - 5
BRONZE - 10
CHAMPIONSHIPS RECORDS 18 SO FAR

This is a huge improvement on last year when the final tally was 11 x gold
7 x silver
5 x bronze

It's all to play for now as we go into the final weekend @ Wrexham and the squad are rellishing the prospect of picking up more medals and Champ records. The aim is to break 25 x Gold and 20 champ records

Abergele swimmers consolodated their opening weekend's performances by upping the anti yet again with Cameron Bell producing an exceptional result in the 11-13 200m freestyle to take silver; at the half way stage, he had split a 2 sec PB on his best ever 100m freestyle so looking good for next time over his favoured distance. Distance man James Owen broke 18 minutes (17.49) for his 1500m winning the event outright. Last time out over the distance, he went 18.01 so a huge effort swim from James in his favourite event. Brad Carnell after a shakey first turn in the 11 - 13 years 200m breast brought home a very well earned silver and dropped his time yet again. Alex Huffen and Charlotte Bryan proved their worth yet again by finishing up there with the best over several events. Charlotte Riley just recovering from a very heavy bout of flu proved her ability by producing fine reulsts in 100m breast as did Hannah Lancaster & Nathan Hughes. All in all in typical style the crew came home with a further
10 x Gold
2 x Silver
3 x Bronze
setting 9 x new championship records

Swim Wales North Region Championships

Abergele swimmers kicked off as they meant to go on at the start of Swim Wales North Region Championships on the first of three consecutive weekends @ Holywell on 17/18th Feb 2007. Despite having a heavy cold, Charlotte Riley also put in the performance of her life in the 13+ 200m IM slashing her previous best time to take a very well deserved bronze. It's all to play for going in to the second weekend @ Bangor & the Abergele squad are relishing the challenge ahead of them

Swimming 2 years out of age the Abergele  youngster proved his worth yet
again in the mens 100m backstroke to take a very  hard fought Bronze medal, in a
field littered with the best of UK's  swimming talent.

Winning any kind of medal swimming out  of age is a tough call but Rob was
well rewarded by being presented with his  medal by Dame Kelly Holmes.

Welsh Regional Nationals 2006

fdsf

Three of Abergele’s top swimmers recently travelled to Wales National Pool, Swansea for the Welsh Regional Nationals, Leah Cooper, Nathan Edwards- Hughes and Hannah Lancaster.  Under extremely warm conditions, they had a very rewarding three days. From 25 starts they produced 17 personal best times, six finals, one silver medal and two Bronze Medals.
Day one saw Personal Best times being slashed. Nathan and Leah going into the 100m Freestyle Finals both had very exciting races but were just beaten out of the Medals.
Day two saw Hannah taking to the block for the 400m Individual Medley, coming from fourth place on the second turn of the butterfly, she moved up onto her rivals on the backstroke, but as she turned into the breaststroke she soon pulled ahead of  all three competitors and took the lead. Still holding her own into the last 100m freestyle, & being pursued by another North Wales swimmer, she took first place in her heat scooping the bronze Medal & knocking 5 seconds off her Personal Best time. Day two also saw Nathan and Leah in the 200m Freestyle Finals. Nathan had a fantastic swim but just missed out on a medal, going from 17th seed to finishing a well earned 4th place and slashing his personal best time by a whooping 11 seconds. Leah swam her race like a true professional, pacing herself to perfection.  She tuned in 6th place on the last leg and put in an almighty effort coming home in 3rd place and clinching the Bronze medal in a personal best time.

Day Three saw even more Personal Best times being produced. Nathan once again being just piped into fourth place in the 100m breast stroke final but still seeing him knock 2 ½ seconds off his PB. Going into the 200m IM final he had all to swim for.  He turned in 5th place at the end of the fly, and held his own on the backstroke to turn in fourth.  He really came into his own on the breast stroke leg and turned into the final 50m freestyle just in the lead.  He kicked for home in a nail biting last leg but  was just piped into 2nd place and a Silver medal by 200ths of a second.

Cheestrings ASA National Age Group Championships

Cheestrings ASA National Age Group CHampionships 2006

Abergele's own Rob Parry showed he was more than a match for anything British Swimming's finest could throw at him at the ASA National Age Group Championships Ponds Forge Sheffield.

Taking on the best in Britain is no mean task, and the Abergele power house rose to the occasion in true grit style.

Day 1 & entering the Meet in the best condition of his life, he powered through to finals in the 100m freestyle and 200m IM. Taking GOLD in the 200m IM slashing almost 3 seconds off his previous best time, and taking BRONZE in the 100m freestyle.

Day 2 saw him through to finals of the 100m Butterfly. Going in third fastest & lining up against Oli Schmit (British No.1) Rob looked remarkably relaxed in the warm up. He knew he was in for a drum tight finish as 3 swimmers had gone a minute point in the heats. After a very solid start he swam a very relaxed first 50m hitting the turn 2nd behind Schmit. Fast off the turn he pushed Oli hard overtaking in the last 25m to touch him out in 59.99 to take another GOLD & slashing 1.64 secs. off his previous best.

Day 4 saw the final day of competition. Tired but relaxed from a very hard fought competition Rob pushed into the finals of 100m backstroke and 200m freestyle. The100m backstroke event was always going to be an extremely exciting one with nothing much at all between Rob and nearest rival Adam John Plymouth Leander. With nothing in it at the turn the two swimmers were matched stroke for stroke on the back 50m with John just pipping the touch at  the finish. With a very hard fought SILVER under his belt Rob was back in the water for the 200m freestyle finishing a very creditable 7th.
Rob was also awarded third place  in the BAGCATS AWARDS on the final day of competition.

All 4 days were extremely tough but our Abergele boy did us proud with by far his most outstanding performance at this Championships ever & its GAME ON for the next series of competitions.
